Passers-by can see the brick work as the west wall of the new jail at the Law Enforcement Center reaches its final height.

But work also continues under ground, with workers building wells for the geothermal system and pipes connecting that system to the new jail.

Project Manager Jerry Petermeier told the supervisors Tuesday morning that those pipes have already been installed under Second Avenue. Holes were bored under the street, so it was not necessary to break the concrete.

On Wednesday, the roof for the 911 safe room will be poured. The reinforced concrete is designed to protect the dispatchers and their equipment from tornado-strength winds.
