The Vinton Lions Club held their regular Wednesday meeting at the Pizza Ranch. There were 41 members and 11 guests present. Several members introduced their guests. Member Rob Levis presented Dan Milnes who is the head of Americorps here in Vinton and the son of a World War II veteran. Member Larry Druschel introduced his aunt and uncle who will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary next week. Member Marty Blind told the membership about the wine judging competition that will be held on Thursday during the Benton County Fair. The People’s Choice Award will be judged at 6:30 pm at the fairgrounds.
Member Allan Woodhouse reminded the crowd of the “Meet and Greet” that will be held at the Ray House this Friday from 4 to 7 pm. Members of the public will be able to meet the three newest medical professionals to come to Vinton. Dr. Maggie Mangold, M.D., Sara Stuefen, D.D.S., and Chiropractic Intern Scott Barron will be available with their families to meet the public. Dr. Mangold will begin her practice at Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics, Dr. Stuefen has taken over Dr. Allan Woodhouse Family Dentistry, and Scott Barron is currently interning with Dr. Matt Betterton.
Then, member Roger Uthoff, who also represents the Honor Flight from this area, introduced the four area World War II veterans who recently went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. The meeting then moved across the street to the Palace Theatre. Roger Uthoff presented a DVD program about the recent Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C.
The Vinton Lions Club is one of the largest and most active service organizations in Vinton. The club meets every Wednesday at the Vinton Pizza Ranch. Each week members hear an interesting program and enjoy the company of their fellow Lions Club members. The Lions Club food trailer can be seen at numerous community events in Vinton throughout the year.
