News : Council okays changes for car show, Celebration Park event, PIP, Flaughless 5K

During its meeting on Thursday evening, the Vinton City Council gave the necessary approval for several 2014 events:

First Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Street will be closed this Sunday, March 30, for the Benton County Speedway car show, which will feature several dirt track cars and the drivers who will race them in Vinton each Sunday evening throughout the racing season.

The Celebration Park dedication on June 14, will include fireworks; the council approved a special permit for those fireworks. Chuck Yedlik and his Bar-Y Pyros crew will set off the fireworks from the city dump area.

The council also approved a fireworks permit and street closing for Party in the Park and the Party in Pink 5K race which takes place the Friday evening of that weekend. Party iin the Park takes place from Thursday, June 26 through Saturday, June 28.

The third annual Flaughles 5K, in honor of Dan Flaugh, will take place Sept. 27, which is also Vinton-Shellsburg Homecoming week and the 10 year reunion of Dan’s Class of 2004.
