News : Choir concert includes old favorite, new numbers

VS Choral Night: Seventh grade girls sing to the boys during 'Reuben and Rachel.'

The annual Vinton-Shellsburg Choral Night featured a variety of middle school and high school choirs and ensembles included some new songs as well as old favorites probably sung by their parents when they were in the school choir.

Middle school performers include sixth, seventh and eighth grade choruses, an 8th grade mixed ensemble, an ensemble featuring several sixth grade girls and eight grader Baylee Bruce singing "Over the Rainbow," and a seventh-eighth grade girls ensemble.

The high school singing groups included the Treble Choir, Concert Choir and Chamber Choir. A men's ensemble performed "Prayer of the Children" a capella and received a standing ovation from the audience. Those singers included Jacob Bunge, Daniel Janssen, Jordan Evans, Kyle Schemmel, Caleb Kruckenberg, Matt Lash, Lucas Murray and Alex Dick.

Several percussionists accompanied the singers. Piano players for the event were Lori Ferguson and April Ahrenholz. Choir directors Lois Martin and Michala Martin led the choirs.
