An awards ceremony was held July 21st at 6:30pm at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton recognizing the 2010 grant recipients of the Benton County Community Foundation. The Vinton Area Dollars for Scholars was awarded $850 to be used in there Holiday Roping Fundraiser. Mary Ann Burk, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa and David Coulter from the Benton County Community Foundation board presented the check to Kelly Elliott, president of the Dollars for Scholars (see photo). These funds will allow for the purchase of equipment and supplies that will be used in the annual roping project.
The Vinton Area Dollars for Scholars is a locally operated and supported, non-profit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation. Operated by an all-volunteer board of directors, the purpose of Dollars for Scholars is to expand access to higher education by involving and assisting the community to support local students.
