Preparations for the 2014 Party in Pink 5K are are well under way, as sponsors and volunteers have been providing bags for runners and organizing activities while participants have been signing up.
More than 425 have already signed up for the June 27 event, which raises funds for the Virginia Gay Hospital Gifts of Hope program, which provides funding for mammograms for women who cannot afford the services.
"We're expecting big crowds again this year," said Lu Karr, one of the organizers. "Last year we had 600 registered and hope to exceed that number this year."
This year, the participants will use electronic timing chips, which will make scoring much more accurate and speedy. Each athlete's times will be available shortly after completing the race.
The deadline for a guaranteed t-shirt has passed, although a few shirts remain. Registration is open until the race begins.
Other activities include a photo booth, massage therapists, hair painting and tattoos.
