The Vinton Lutheran Home and its Auxiliary continued their annual Ice Cream Social tradition on Sunday, serving ice cream, pie and cake to hundreds of people.
More than 50 Auxiliary members, along with staff, families of residents and the youngsters in the Junior Volunteer program spent the afternoon serving ice cream, selling grab bags and treats, and operating the games for the children.
Entertainment included Gene Roster and Barb Riggle, Stuart and the Hilltoppers and a variety show by the Junior Volunteers, who sang, danced and played chimes for the audience. Many of the residents danced along to the old-time music before the Junior Volunteers began their program.
While the event included the same features as other years, this year saw one signficant change. Sarah Hepker has replaced Jessica Rippel (who has a different job in the organization) as Activities Director and coordinator of the Social. Hepker said things went very well.
The Social is one of the main fund-raisers of the year for the Auxiliary, which seeks to make life better for the residents there.
