RURAL COMMUNITY RUNS FOR FREE WOMEN’S HEALTH SERVICES

Benton County Beast Cancer Survivors Hosts Party-in-Pink 5k Walk/Run Friday

(Vinton, IA). The streets will turn pink this coming Friday evening in Vinton, IA at Riverside Park as more than 500 walkers and runners from across the region gather for the 2nd Annual Party-in-Pink 5k walk/run.

Last year a group of breast cancer survivors were convinced a small group of dedicated volunteers could make the difference in the lives of women from Benton County. The Benton County Breast Cancer Survivors Group believes every woman should have access to medical services, regardless of their ability to pay. Last year’s Party-in-Pink raised more than $8,000 for FREE women’s health services at Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics.

By partnering with Virginia Gay Hospital Healthcare Foundation and building upon the Gifts of Hope fund the group has positively impacted the healthcare opportunities for women in Benton County. The Gifts of Hope fund was created to provide free women’s services at Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics to those who need financial assistance. It will pay for a clinic visit, testing (including mammography) and diagnostic analysis of those tests to determine next steps.

The 2nd annual Party-in-Pink 5k Walk/Run is slated to take place this Friday, June 27th in Vinton at Riverside Park. The kid’s fun run begins at 5:30pm and the 5K walk/run begins promptly at 6pm and features “chipped” timing allowing for accurate timing of the 5K. The public is encouraged to arrive early on the day of the race to register.

Registration will take place on Thursday night at Monkeytown (305 1st Ave, Vinton) from 5:00pm to 7:00pm) OR on the day of the Party-in-Pink 5k (Friday) at Riverside Park (8th Avenue North) in Vinton from 4:00pm-5:30pm.
