Don’t ignore those nagging aches and pains! Too many times people experience long term, chronic, aches and pains in their knees, hips, wrists and shoulders and figure they’ll get better over time. In some cases patients do improve, but there are times when the aches only get worse and it’s during those moments that your healthcare provider may refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon.
“Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics is committed to providing exceptional surgical care ‘at home’ and is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Margaret Fehrle, MD to our surgical team,” said Michael Riege, CEO. Dr. Fehrle is a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Originally from Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Fehrle did her undergraduate work at Drake University, where her father was a professor when she was growing up. Afterwards she attended the University of Iowa and attained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and then spent another five years in an orthopaedic residency at the University. She graduated in May of 1996 and joined her Marshalltown Orthopaedics practice in September of that same year.
Dr. Fehrle is committed to serving small, rural communities as evidenced in her Marshalltown practice and clinics in Nevada and Vinton. She explained that she “enjoys coming to the smaller hospitals, the atmosphere, the nurses are interested in patients and care, and that’s sometimes different than a big hospital. I like small towns.”
“Her warm demeanor combined with decades of orthopaedic surgery experience is a great benefit to our community,” said Riege.
The state-of-the-art surgical suite at Virginia Gay Hospital can accommodate a wide range of orthopaedic surgery, such as: arthroscopic surgery (also known as “knee scopes”) for torn ligaments, ACL repairs, carpal tunnel surgery, rotator cuff repair, and total joint replacement (e.g., knee/hip replacement) surgeries.
At the present time, Dr. Fehrle’s Vinton orthopaedic clinic is every other Tuesday, but she eventually anticipates having weekly Tuesday clinics.
Dr. Fehrle is married and a mother of two; and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, Clinical Orthopaedic Society, Med-Central States Orthopaedic Society and the Iowa Orthopaedic Society. Her home is in Marshalltown.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Margaret Fehrle to Virginia Gay Hospital.
