News : Phony law enforcement scammers targeting Benton County residents

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of attempted telephone scams in Benton County.

While the attempts to scam and defraud the public are continuous and expanding on a daily basis, Benton County has been targeted once again in the last few days.

Calls are being received from the District of Columbia, Washington D.C. from numbers similar to 202-241-5488 indicating that there is a warrant of arrest for the called party. They may leave a message wanting you to contact them to take care of the warrant. In both cases today the called parties did not call back. This would be an attempt to gain personal or financial information from you.

Law Enforcement Agencies will not attempt to gain any of this type of information over the phone.

If you are targeted by this type of call a recommendation would be to immediately hang up on the calling party.
