News : A few of the new books that arrived this week at the Vinton Public Library

The wonder of all things - Jason Mott - On an ordinary day, at an air show like that in any small town across the country, a plane crashes into a crowd of spectators. After the dust clears, a thirteen-year-old girl named Ava is found huddled beneath a pocket of rubble with her best friend, Wash. He is injured and bleeding, and when Ava places her hands over him, his wounds disappear. A really good book – very very close to a wow!

Some luck by Jane Smiley - On their farm in Denby, Iowa, Rosanna and Walter Langdon abide by time-honored values that they pass on to their five wildly different children: from Frank, the handsome, willful first born, and Joe, whose love of animals and the land sustains him, to Claire, who earns a special place in her father’s heart. Each chapter in Some Luck covers a single year, beginning in 1920, it is the first part of a trilogy that will span a century. More enjoyable than some of her other books.

Somewhere safe with somebody good - Jan Karon After a long absence, a new book in the Mitford series. All the quirky characters are still here, and the past is neatly summarized and the future is full of hope.
