"We had a good day," says VS Activities Director Jim Struve on Thursday, describing the nearly $40,000 in donations from local individuals and businesses toward the track resurfacing and field turf projects on that day alone. That brings this week's total to $72,000, and the overall fund-raising campaign to $272,000.
"Now, we just need $28,000 more to complete the project," said Struve.
The low bid on the project is $1,191,700. $8.2 million of the funding will come from the district Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL), leaving a total of $300,000 needed in donations to complete the project.
Businesses participating in the advertising campaign will be represented with banners on display on the field.
The district has set up the following program with three levels of sponsorship:
Level #1 - $2,000 per year for 5 years = $10,000 commitment over 5 years for a 3’ x 12’ advertising sign. Level #2 - $1,000 per year for 5 years = $5,000 commitment over 5 years for a 3’ x 9’ advertising sign. Level #3 - $500 per year for 5 years = $2,500 commitment over 5 years for a 3’ x 6’ advertising sign. Payment can be made to Vinton-Shellsburg Schools in one lump sum or on an annual installment basis over 5 years. Individuals making pledges can also pay in installments over the next five years, said Struve. Also, the district will offer refunds to donors in case the project is not completed.Struve encourages business owners who would like to participate to contact him by this Friday. The VS school board plans a special meeting on the project for next Monday, Nov. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the board meeting room of the administrative office area (at the south end of the Middle School).
Those wanting to participate should contact Struve at the high school, 319-436-4728, or via email at jim.struve@vscsd.org.
