A month after the Alco discount store chain announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy re-organization, employees in Vinton have learned that the local store is among Alco centers the company plans to close in early 2015.

Employees received the news on Tuesday.

Manager Verdonn Lefevere said little other information is available now. The Texas-based store chain has a major hearing in its bankruptcy case this Friday; Lefevere said the company may authorize him to issue a statement after that court session.

Alco operates more than 200 stores in 23 states.

JM November 19, 2014, 7:22 pm This is disappointing to hear. We need a place in town like Alco to shop. Maybe the town will let Walmart come in now?
JW November 19, 2014, 8:00 pm Very disappointing for Alco\'s customers, but especially heartbreaking for the loyal employees. Customer service at our local Alco was a real plus.
