The National Weather Service center in the Quad Cities has forecast a dreadfully cold and snowy Monday and Tuesday for the Vinton area.

“Artic air and bitter cold wind chills tonight followed by possible heavy late snow into Monday night” is what area residents should prepare to deal with, says the NWS.

The fast-moving storm may dump 6 to 8 inches of snow on the area between Monday night and Tuesday. Wind chill values will be an estimated 20-25 degrees below zero.

The snow is expected to begin in late afternoon on Monday.

Low temperatures are expected to be below zero for the rest of the week; Wednesday will be especially cold, with a high temperature prediction of -5F.

Residents are reminded of both the dangers of exposure to the bitter cold, as well as the hazards that significant snowfall and drifting snow pose for motorists.
