News : VSHS Debate Teams do well at State event

VSHS Debate Team members recently competed at the State event.

Top 16: Rachel Gordon and Karys Lillie earned a spot in the State Debate Octofinal Round.

Congratulations to the 2014-2015 Vinton-Shellsburg Debate team members (back row) Shane Monaghan, Lela Aondofar, Rhianna Turner, Brittany Grendler, Quinn Monaghan, Grant Noren and Riley Ries. (Front row) Jonah Blix, Caitlyn Martin, Jenna Lane, Kylie Miracle, Olivia Oltrogge, Rachel Gordon and Karys Lillie on their outstanding performance at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Debate Tournament held on the DMACC campus in Ankeny last weekend. Teams debated the topic: Resolved: United Nations peacekeepers should have the power to engage in offensive operations. The speaking side of the five debates was determined by a flip of a coin. A special congratulation is extended to the team of Rachel Gordon and Karys Lillie for their entry into the Octofinal Round of the top 16 teams in their division.
