Remember when: Lincoln students compiled a book of poems and short stories in 1978.

As we continue our series on Vinton-area memories, we ask today if anyone remembers writing for a booklet entitled "Lincoln School Writers?"

Lincoln students compiled two volumes of short stories and poetry in the late 70s. Volume 2 was dated April of 1978.

We have uploaded a digital version for you!

Here are a couple excerpts.

I wish that I was the tallest person in the world.

I would walk through Lake Michigan and only get my feet wet.

I wish I could have a purple and pink polka dotted dragon.

He would be the tallest dragon in the world.

It would be fun.

I wish I was the best basketball player in the world.

-Susie Buhr, 5-j

I wish I could fly

And take my cat with me.

Then we'd go to Hawaii

And stay there for two years.

We'd eat, drink and swim.

I wish my cat could swim too.

Then I'd wish for a house

On the beach which looked out to sea.

When the two years were over

I'd buy some plane tickets for my family

And we'd live in Hawaii forever.

-Suzy Stiegelmeyer, 5-J

"I remember that unit - barely," says Suzy. "I did eventually make to Hawaii. The cat stayed home, though."

Suzy also said hat she had to drug her two cats before flying from Texas to North Carolina, where she lives now.
