Although the Des Moines Register won't publicly announce it until March, the city has been chosen as a ride through city for the 2015 RAGBRAI bicycle ride.
Mayor Watson presented the City Council with a letter of agreement during Monday's meeting.
City officials, along with Vinton Unlimited Director Melissa Schwan, will begin coordinating efforts to welcome the riders.
RAGBRAI last came through Vinton in 2012. Many local businesses and non-profit organizations offered meals, refreshments, beverages and other amenities.
One Vinton project from the 2012 RAGBRAI event will again appear in 2015: The giant bicycle made by members of the Elwick family.

The full route with all of the pass-through towns will be published in mid-March, said RAGBRAI Assistant Director Scott Garner. Other Benton County towns are likely to be part of the route as riders complete the journey between overnight stops Cedar Falls and Hiawatha.
