When the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Yearbook comes out later this year, a photo that Vinton Today played a big part in taking will grace the cover.

We didn’t take the picture, or even give them any photography advice. We simply – by just doing our job – connected them with the photographer.

We published some photos taken from the Aerial Advantage drone piloted by Brendan Turner. The VSHS students in charge of the yearbook saw those photos, and hired Brendan to take a photo for the yearbook.

“We can’t wait to reveal it,” said Caitlyn Martin. Years ago, Caitlyn was one of our first (and best) Junior Journalists. Now, she’s helping create the book that VSHS students will cherish for the rest of their lives.

For the past five years, we have been sharing news stories with readers throughout Vinton, and beyond. And along with the stories we have shared, we are also creating connections between residents. People know more about the news, and our community, because of all of the stories we share here.

As we mark our 5th anniversary of Vinton Today – which was the first on-line only community newspaper in Iowa and remains as one of just a few of them – we hope we can increase the strength of our connections.

We do this every day, by sharing stories about people you know and issues you care about.

Today, we are asking you to do a small part to help us. We are conducting a simple survey to find out more about our Vinton Today readers: Who they are, where they live, and what they would like to see more of on our unique community news web site.

We hope you will take a couple minutes to share with us a bit more about where you live and what you would like to see in the future on Vinton Today. And as always, any information shared with us will remain confidential; we never pass on email lists or other information to anyone else, ever.
