Since we've started Vinton Today, we've pretty much lived and breathed this website.
A few weeks ago, we took a little it of time for ourselves.
We started out fine.
We packed up the car and took off, leaving the laptops at home and taking just our cell phones in case of emergency.
We relaxed and looked across the car seat at each other and introduced ourselves again. We meandered to southern Iowa where we had lived for a brief period of time with our small family and reminisced about how we had raised 6 children in a one bedroom apartment for about 6 months and how much fun we had.
After we had been offline for 24 hours, we realized how life really is when you aren't looking at it through a computer screen.
Not that we don't love all of you, we do, but we had forgotten how to simply relax.
But things took a turn for the worst.
We hopped in the car and it pointed itself home.
We started shaking and encouraged the car to return us to our computers as quickly as possible.
48 hours.
That's all it took.
48 hours and we HAD to get back.
As soon as we walked in the door, changed our clothes and dumped the luggage in our room and greeted our teenagers, who were wishing we would have stayed away longer...we both grabbed our computers and began again to desperately try to catch up on what had been happening in the last 48 hours.
We were home.
It felt right to get back to work.
We chuckled and joked about how it was bad that in 48 hours we were about to have a major breakdown if we didn't get back to work.
But what about you?
How long can you go before YOU need a Vinton Today fix?
Once a year we remove our reporter hats and ask you for your support.
I know, I know, we just said something yesterday.
But we really DO need you to take a minute and send in a donation.
It doesn't matter if it's a mere million or $20 bucks, on second thought, if we can find our one reader to send in a cool million, I promise I won't bug you again for a looooong time!
But seriously, throughout the year we demonstrate a often how we aren't your traditional news site.
Unlike every other news source we don't charge a dime to our families when they lose a loved one and want to run an obituary.
We advertise events for businesses that aren't our advertisers. Yeah, we probably should say, ahem, but in the long run, we figure, they are, well part of "us" too.
We often lend a hand in getting word about fundraising events when families are hit by sickness or tragedy, and never even dream of charging them for advertising.
We are the ONLY news source that is trying really hard to take care of our community, responsibly, without drama and all they hype.
We give you "just the facts ma'am, just the facts."
Take a minute now, click on the link and please, do what you can to support Vinton Today.
Thank you!
