The Vinton Lions Club is hosting the District 9 NE Lions convention March 20 & 21 at the Iowa Braille and Sight-Saving School campus in Vinton.
The Vinton Lions serving as organizers for the 12-county district convention are Alan Woodhouse and Cal Rickels. Many members have already signed up for specific duties.
The 9NE District Governor is Jack Schlesselman of Belle Plaine. There are 48 clubs in district 9NE.
About the District Governor:
NE DG Jack Schlesselman joined Belle Plaine Lions Club in June of 2007. He has been club 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President, and President for two years. During his second year as President of the Belle Plaine Lions, he was also Benton County Zone Chair and 9NE 2nd VDG. Many years ago, he also was a member of the Montezuma Lions and Victor Lions. He recently was awarded the LCI President's Certificate of Appreciation. Jack taught band for 38 years, with 31 of those in the Belle Plaine Schools. He currently is a member of the Marengo Civil War Band and the Cedar Rapids Shrine Band. He was also a member of the esteemed Iowa Military Veterans Band of Des Moines. This August, Jack and his wife and partner in service, Judy, will have been married for 35 years, and they have three grown daughters and one three year old grandson.
