Dr. Sara Stuefen of Vinton has been presented with the Iowa Dental Association’s New Dentist Award. The Iowa Dental Association honored Dr. Stuefen and other award recipients in a special ceremony during the association’s Annual Session in Des Moines this past weekend.
“Dr. Stuefen is an excellent example of the dedicated and service-oriented individuals we honor each year with this award,” said Dr. Bruce Cochrane, immediate past-president of the Iowa Dental Association. “Her top-notch work and commitment make her a fine representative of the future of dentistry in Iowa.”
Dr. Sara Stuefen attended the University of Iowa for her undergraduate studies and received her DDS in 2010 from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. She was the recipient of the Dr. James Michael Leary Memorial Award presented annually to a “graduating senior dental student who has demonstrated the high ethical and technical standards personified by Dr. Leary.”
Upon graduation, Dr. Stuefen acquired her practice in Vinton. She has immersed herself in the community and has been actively involved in various roles in the Vinton Lions Club including her current term as Vice President.
Since the beginning of the 2010 fall term, Dr. Stuefen has been an adjunct faculty member instructing undergraduate senior dental students in the Department of Family Dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
Dr. Stuefen currently serves as Vice President of the University District Dental Society and has been an executive board member since 2012. She also serves as a legislative key contact for the Iowa Dental Association and is an associate editor of the Iowa Dental Journal. Dr. Stuefen has been working with the IDA to increase new dentist involvement and awareness.
