Veterans set up flag poles throughout downtown Vinton in honor of Memorial Day.
Area veterans invite all local residents to celebrate Memorial Day with them this Monday, May 25. The schedule of events are:
8:00 AM Military Honors at Maplewood Cemetery, in honor of the veterans buried there.
8:15 AM Military Honors at St Mary's Cemetery, in honor of the veterans buried there.
8:30 AM Military Honors at Evergreen Cemetery, in honor of the veterans buried there.
10:00 AM March to the Cedar River Bridge, in honor of the veterans buried at sea.
11:00 AM A Memorial Service at the Veterans Memorial Park. This year we will be dedicating a new monument to all Veterans and a memorial bench. The bench is in memory of Ron Johnson, Joe Fowler and Wayne Wutzke the three young men from Vinton who gave the Ultimate Sacrifice in the Vietnam war.
In case of rain the military honors in the cemeteries and the march to the bridge will be canceled. The memorial service will be held at the Vinton American Legion, 105 N R Ave.
