News : Urbana 5 honored at races; many sign up for Iowa Donor Network

Caps honoring the Urbana 5 were presented to winners of the feature races Sunday at the BCS.

Two months after the families of the Urbana 5 made the decision to help scores of others by allowing the five to be organ donors, the five were honored at the Benton County Speedway.

Friends and family members of the five helped with raffles and other fund-raising projects for the Iowa Donor Network. Vinton native Jess Ender spoke about the health story of her boyfriend, Independence racer Chris Luloff, who has had one kidney transplant but needs another. Tony Hakes of the Iowa Donor Network told the audience that nearly 600 Iowans are on a donor organ waiting list.

Nearly 100 more people signed up to be organ donors during the event.

Several race cars began the event with a few slow laps in memory of the Urbana 5: Quentin Ary, Triston Randall, Hunter Tuttle, Zoey Tuttle and Nikki Jacobson.
