The first summer education session called CSI (Christian Summer Institute) began on Monday; parents are still able to register their children for the sessions wich continue for the next four weeks at Blessed Hope Church.
Vinton-Shellsburg educator Megan Hesson is leading the program. Hesson was the assistant FFA leader last year; she will be a math teacher at VS High School when the school year begins in August.
The sessions include lessons in history, science, math, and English, as well as the Bible.
About CSI:
Christian Summer Institute (CSI) is OPEN TO ALL children entering 1st-5th grade and is a Christ-focused and educational setting. Kids will receive 100% hands-on lessons in reading, math, science, History, interpersonal skills, and music.
The creators of CSI have taken an extra step to align the lessons to the Iowa Core to ensure they correlate to what the children have learned in the past year.
CSI will run 8 sessions, or “trainings,” throughout 4 weeks, starting July 13th. Each week will contain two different trainings, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The children will receive a lesson in each subject listed above and will have a break for a snack.
Volunteers for CSI are background checked and personally approved by the elder team at Blessed Hope Church. Additionally, safety and security will be the number one concern and systems are put in place to ensure each child has a name badge that also lists all needed information.
Scholarships are available for families who request financial assistance. Because CSI is OPEN TO ALL, nothing should stand in your way from your child taking advantage of this great opportunity!
