Birthday Bridge: Free cake will help Shellsburg celebrate its 100th year during RAGBRAI ride.
Like the citizens of dozens of other Iowa communities, Shellsburg residents are readying for the arrival of RAGBRAI riders next week. More than 10,000 cyclists plan to pedal from Vinton to Shellsburg as they complete Thursday's (Day 5) 70.9-mile journey from Cedar Falls to Hiawatha.
Entertainment scheduled for next Thursday, July 23, in Shellsburg includes music in Shellsburg Park by the band called Four Guys and a Gal, as well as Sparkles the Clown.
Birthday Bridge
Free cake will be served at the historic Shellsburg Bridge, which turns 100 years old this year. Built in 1915, the stone arch bridge has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1998.
