On Wednesday, June 22nd 2015, the Benton County Fair started with animals being brought in between the times of 3 pm and 8 pm, but that isn’t when the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter started the fair.

The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter started working for fair early in the summer, planning out everything that they can do to make the FFA Barn even better than the previous year. They redid a few boards that were there the year before, as well as creating a new area for children to play with the bunnies and building a ducky derby.

On Sunday, July 19th 2015, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter set up the fair; placing two large boards with fun activities on all three sides of each, putting up enough gates for many cows, horses, goats, sheep, and a donkey, placing cages in the barn for the bunnies to be contained as well as building a small area for the kids to play with the bunnies in, and setting up the duck derby and the tug of war grain bin. The barn also contained chapter displays from of the FFA chapters in the county.

The FFA Barn was packed with children coming in to play and learn, as well as Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members to teach the different classes that occurred over the series of days.

The barn wouldn’t have been as successful as it was without the help of all of those who brought in animals for the community to see and pet as well as the different organizations that let the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA borrow some of their learning equipment. Thank you to everyone that contributed to the FFA Barn!!

Other than the amazing barn that the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter helped with, the chapter also had many members show animals at the fair. The members that showed under FFA were Erin Cantrell, Deion Dulin, Jacob Long, Sadie Novotny, Sydney Walker, and Keri Webster.

The members that showed did an amazing job, receiving many awards for their hard work and dedication that they put forth with their animals!

In the end, fair was a successful event! Everyone had a great time and can’t wait for next year where they will get to do it all over again!
