A Texas couple and a Missouri couple died in a car-semi accident at the intersection of Highway 21 and Highway 30 at the Benton/Tama County line on Friday afternoon.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2004 Chevy Impala driven by William C. Willis, 68, of San Antonio, Texas, was heading southbound on Highway 21 at around 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14. The sedan proceeded through the controlled intersection into the path of a semi driven by Max Gauch, 54, of Baxter. The semi broad-sided the sedan and jackknifed.
Willis and three passengers: Linda Faye Willis, 65, of San Antonio; George A. Eggers, 89, of Memphis, Mo., and Delorise L. Smith Eggers, 88, of Memphis, Mo., were all pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was not seriously injured.
The Benton and Tama County Sheriff’s Offices and Belle Plaine, Elberon and Vining fire departments responded to the scene.
