For the 16th consecutive year, Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics has been selected as one of the recipients of a very generation donation from the proceeds of the Murphy Memorial Golf Tournament. The Rick and Paula Murphy family and many of their friends have hosted this tournament since 2000 to raise money to help in the fight against cancer. Too many families have been impacted by cancer – some more than others – and the Murphys’ mission is to help as many families as they can until this battle is won.
Four years ago, the Murphys’ gifts were combined with gifts from other organizations and individuals to create the Gifts of Hope Fund at VGH. Gifts of Hope is for women and families who need financial assistance to help pay for women’s services. There is no application necessary to qualify for these funds; just ask your health care provider about them and the VGH patient care coordinator will help you navigate the process.
Funds are available for testing, diagnostic work, and up to an additional $2,500 to help pay for any treatment, further testing, insurance policy deductibles or copays, etc. that families may need help with.
“We hope you are well, but thanks to the generosity of the Murphy family and many others, we can help you if you need it,” says VGH Foundation Director Mike Timmermans. “Please ask us if you need help.”
In addition to the VGH Gifts of Hope, part of the money from the Murphy Memorial also goes to help people who need financial assistance in areas other than women’s services. Contact the hospital or clinic business office for details if you have questions about how to access these funds.
The Murphy Memorial donation to Gifts of Hope this year was $11,000. Rick Murphy presented the check on Saturday morning to VGH Administrator Mike Riege and VGH Foundation Director Mike Timmermans.
