Introducing “One Quick Question” from iVinton - our mini survey of all things related to telecommunications in Vinton. Take our one question survey, “Is internet service a luxury or has it become a necessity?” Make sure your opinion is heard at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/iVinton1

Coming soon, our iVinton website will have more information about the effort to establish a locally controlled telecommunications utility in Vinton.

Our group has been meeting for several months, exploring the benefits of establishing a Vinton telecommunications utility. Join us on Facebook, or watch Vinton Today for the launch of our website. To learn about volunteer opportunities by sending email to volunteer@iVinton.com

One question we’ve fielded multiple times concerns service to the areas surrounding Vinton but outside the city limits. People want to know if they rural areas will get better service as a result of the iVinton initiative.

The bad news is that a local telecommunications utility can only serve the City of Vinton, we can’t branch-out to other areas. The good news for rural residents are the subsidies recently offered legacy providers to help them provide better service to low-density, and therefore high-cost-to-serve areas.

CZ September 21, 2015, 9:18 pm LaPorte City telephone company, now LPC Connect, brought fiber optics to every address in their exchange area. This means that rural residents as well at LaPorte City now has access to high speed internet and \"cable\" television. It is so much faster than satellite service. We love it.
