The Vinton Lions Club helped area residents and businesses with some solid waste disposal on Saturday, as they collected appliances and a variety of other scrap metal. Many club members spent a few hours helping load the items from trucks and trailers.
"We had a successful event Saturday with a steady stream of people," says Lion Sara Stueffen. "By 9 a.m. we had already unloaded 23 trucks. Approximately 10 house pickups were done, and by 10:45 am a semi trailer and a 20 yard scrap container were full. Appliances from businesses filled an entire semi on Friday. Another 20-yard scrap container was filled by the end of the day."
"A big thanks to all those who helped us Saturday, as we could not have
done it without them," says Stuefen
She specifically thanked: Pat Lyons and Ideal Industries for providing their facilities, equipment, and resources. Ideal Industries employees Greg Becker, Duane White, Jim Williams, Michael Hook and Bill Busler who helped us. Coots Materials for providing a big front end loader, and Kevin Kirchner for driving it. Barnes Furniture, Edwards Plumbing and Heating, Michael and Dowd, Nick's TV and Appliance, and Viking Sewing all contributed their appliances, and Rick Ohrt for planning the fundraiser.
