Dr. Alan Woodhouse was recently honored by the Vinton Lion’s Club with the Melvin Jones Fellow award. Alan has served in many roles over many years, including club president. He is best known locally for his hard work on behalf of the local club’s primary fundraising effort, the Lions food trailer. The Vinton Lions are regulars at home football games and Party In The Park, and many other local events.
The Lions Club International Foundation’s (LCIF) Melvin Jones Fellow award is given in honor of Lion members who have been especially loyal to the Lions mission of service. LCIF has awarded grants totaling more than $900 million dollars, organized more than 7 million cataract surgeries, and LCIF is ranked as one of the most efficient charities by Charity Navigator.
Lions have provided vision screening for more than 20 million children. In the past ten years LCIF has donated more than $96 million to disaster relief. Some funds from LCIF were distributed in Vinton after the flood of 2008.
Lions are proud of their service to the community and of Alan for deserving the Melvin Jones Fellow award.
