News : Food pantry thanks those who have been so generous

The smiles on the faces of Sherry Crawford and Linda Wood, two of the three co-directors of the Vinton Food Panty (the third is Vickie Holst), and the thumbs-up say it all.

All the food surrounding them – and there’s more you can’t even see behind them – came rolling in this week, along with other generous donations, as our community as always gave and gave to help us reach those in need.

Vinton-Shellsburg High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) donated all those boxes of wonderful, fresh fruit. Grapefruit, pears, apples and oranges. In addition, the VS National Honor Society brought in a huge load of bagged food donations. And to top it off, Norway Elementary staff and teachers also donated a large number of bags stuffed full of food items.

This is just one small part of all the generosity and thoughtful contributions this community – which extends beyond Vinton – never fails to bring us.

We’ve already been out distributing boxes of fruit to needy families with children in town. The looks on their faces were well worth the extra effort.
