Travel throughout the area, as well as much of Iowa, will be difficult on Monday.
The National Weather Service has issued the following alert for Benton County:
Significant winter storm through Monday night.
A strong storm system will track northward along the Mississippi River Valley today. Periods of sleet, freezing rain, and snow will occur across the region today, with light snow across the entire region tonight before the storm exits the area Tuesday morning.
In addition, strong east winds will gust near 45 mph today. This could result in downed tree branches and power outages where ice accumulations from freezing rain are significant. It may also cause drifting of snow in areas where snowfall rates are higher.
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Tuesday.
- Timing: expect a wintry mix to develop this morning and then diminish late tonight.
- Precipitation rates, the heaviest snowfall rates and greatest ice accumulation will occur between noon and 6 PM this evening.
- Snow and Ice accumulations: Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches and ice accumulations of up to 1/4 of an inch are expected.
- Wind: from the northeast at 25 to 35 mph with gusts near 45 mph.
- Impacts: travel will be dangerous and nearly impossible, including during the evening commute. Precautionary/preparedness actions.
