If you notice a Jeep cruising the streets of Mount Auburn, with one buck's head and antlers mounted on the grill and a skull and antlers on the roof, be sure to wave. The guy behind the wheel is Mount Auburn's new mayor. Jeffrey Whitson celebrated his 35th birthday by attending his first meeting as the leader of the small town. Whitson was not a declared candidate, but won his first election with several write-in votes. He said his victory did not surprise him. "Nobody was running for it, so I figured that maybe I should, just in case our little town would end up without a mayor," Whitson said. So, he mentioned to some Mount Auburn residents that they could write-in his name. "The rest is rock and roll history," said Whitson. The first meeting, he said, was "pretty good," adding that "There is not much happening in The Mountain this time of year. I'm sure it will pick up soon, though." Whitson said he does not have an agenda, or any specific projects in mind for the community yet. State Fair Cookout winner 2015 was a successful year for Whitson. In addition to winning the Mayorship of Mount Auburn, he won First Place in the poultry division at the Iowa State Fair during the Iowa Farm Bureau Cookout. The new mayor also enjoys fishing and hunting and has served for many years on the Cedar-Mount Auburn Fire Department.

MVR January 5, 2016, 10:12 am Whitson, you know I have nothing but love for you....but when you painted the deer head on the front of your jeep to look like Rudolph, you definitely tramatized my 4 yr old, who thought Rudolph was now dead! ;)
