Eight Shellsburg Elementary fifth grade students will be participating in the East Central Iowa Choral Director’s Association Honor Choir Festival this Friday. The ECICDA 5th & 6th Grade Honor Choir will be held on Friday, January 29 at Sinclair Auditorium on the Coe College campus in Cedar Rapids. A day of rehearsal will culminate in an evening concert at 7:00 pm.

Twenty-seven area schools, studios and churches will be participating with a total of 205 students and 23 directors. Shellsburg students participating are Cameron Dawson-Fink, Molly Haisman, Brylee Bruce, Kaelyn Pettyjohn, Alex Funk, Darby Glynn, Ellery Johnson and Bryce Walker.

“This is an awesome experience for our students. They have worked very hard to sing lyrics in three languages while tackling complex rhythms and challenging vocal lines. I am very proud of them.” quotes director, Lois Martin.

Guest director is Mrs. Shelley Droe, a nationally certified music specialist who teaches at Lincoln Elementary in Cedar Falls.

The concert is open to the public. The doors will open for seating at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students K-12. We hope to see you there!
