News : Students to visit Veteran\'s Museum with local veterans by their side

The Vinton Shellsburg Community School Foundation is lending it's support to a high school field trip to Waterloo's Veterans' Museum on February 8th and we're asking for your help. Please consider donating $5 for each student's cost. You can donate online here, by visiting our website at www.vscsdfoundation.org, or by sending a check for your donation amount to the foundation's school address, 1502 C Avenue, Vinton, IA 52349.

A donation covering the cost of five students has already been received. If the fundraiser raises more than the money needed for the 40 students scheduled to be on the trip, excess funds will be used to enhance upcoming student field trips.

The students have studied the Cold War and now veterans will be joining them for their visit to the museum. Imagine a tour of a veterans museum and having access to the memories and the knowledge of people who served their country.

The goals of the trip are for students to better understand local history and its connection to national and international events. They will also be comparing and contrasting the presentation of the information in the exhibits with what they learn from local veterans.
