The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II, and Central Region met at 12:30 pm at Luanna Hawkins home for the January meeting. The program was “Benton-Tama Water Quality Project” given by Shannon Mitchel, Water Shed Coordinator.

President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 12:45pm. Meeting was stopped to hear Shannon speak then at 2:15 the meeting resumed. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge. Six members answered roll call with “What is your ideas on water shed.

Secretary Joyce Bratten read the January minutes, there were no corrections so it stands approved as read.

Treasurer Sharen Stueck gave the Treasurers' report. There were no questions for treasurer so it will be filed for audit.

Fran received a letter and transcript from our scholarship winner John Eden.

Fran is still searching for a Lily book to put in Library in memory of Cam Wood.

A thank you from Tilford Elementary School to the club for the caps, mittens and etc. was sent to Fran

The program books will be printed and handed out at the February meeting.

Fran announced the Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl Poster contest winners. The club had a special meeting at the library on January 16th and chose the winners as a club

The club received 126 posters from the children this year. First place winners will advance to State level to be judged, if they win then it's off to Regional level, if they win there then its off to National level.

The Vinton Garden Club would like to thank Lindsey Otto the art teacher and homeroom teachers at Tilford and Shellsburg Elementary for encouraging the children to participate. All the children did a super job on their poster. Fran presented palace bucks to each of the top three places in each grade and each entry that wasn't a winner received a gift.

Fifth Grade

1st place—Elizabeth Noe—Garrison

2nd place—Kalie Burke—Vinton

3rd place—Paul Herger—Mt. Auburn

Club discussed the plans for the spring upcoming plant and bake sale. Club decided to hold it on Tuesday May 17, 2016.

The Club need a Vice President now since Kelly quit. Rosie said that she would finish out the year as Vice President. Fran and the club thanked Luanna for being hostess and for the pie and ice cream. Fran then adjourned the meeting
