The Relay for Life takes place in a little over three months, and one annual participant is doing her part to raise money to fight cancer.

Vicky Buckingham has made another quilt for a raffle, and she hopes people will understand her urgency.

“Our team has lost thre members since last year’s Relay for Life,” she says. “That is way too many. I don't know anyone who doesn't know someone who has been affected by this horrible disease.”

Vicky reminds area residents that the Benton County Relay for Life will take place in 100 days, on June, 10, at the Benton Community track in Van Horne.

The raffle is under way now; tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Vicky also plans to make some more items which will be available for purchase at the Relay.

“Every year I work hard to collect donations for this cause,” she says. “I always set my goal for $500. Last year I raised $1,025. And all of the money stays in Benton County. It is used to help people who need help for various reasons. It can pay for medication, equipment, or to arrange transportation to appointments, etc.”

“Donors can pay by cash or check by either mailing it to me or just dropping it off at 213 E. 8th. St. Vinton, Iowa 52349-1829. Or I'd be more than happy to come to you and get it,” Vicky says.
