Kelsey Fish, Kindergarten Teacher at Shellsburg Elementary School, has received a Lucile Cornetet Individual Professional Development Award from The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation. This award will enable Kelsey to attend the I Teach K, National Kindergarten Conference in Las Vegas, July 18-22. Lynna Gene Cook, Educational Foundation Board of Trustees Chair, stated that The Foundation awards approximately $60,000 annually to outstanding educators to enable them to attend professional activities in their respective fields.
"My participation in the I Teach K Conference will be learning that I will be able to transfer into my classroom immediately, and that really excites me! A week of all kindergarten-applicable learning is almost unheard of," Kelsey said. "I received a brochure regarding the I Teach K! Conference last year, and was completely intrigued by it. After doing more research, and coming across the Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation, I decided to give it a shot and apply. I’m extremely grateful to be awarded the funds and given the opportunity to attend such professional development."
A bequest to The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International from the Lucile Cornetet estate was the basis for establishing the Lucile Cornetet Professional Development Fund in 2005. Miss Cornetet, a long-time educator and Society member from Ohio, died in 2001.
The Educational Foundation supports and encourages intercultural understanding and educational excellence. Established in 1964, the Foundation is a non-profit organization located in The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Headquarters in Austin, Texas.
