Vinton-Shellsburg Elementary and Middle School Students have had opportunities in the last weeks to participate in Honor Choir Festivals.
Most recently, Davia Herger, VSMS eighth grader, was selected for the Regional NC-ACDA (North Central American Choral Directors Association) Middle School Level Girls Honor Choir. Students from six states auditioned for this honor. Davia was one of 26 alto IIs to earn a spot in the choir.
The concert took place at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 20th. Conducting the choir was Vijay Singh a performer, composer, teacher, conductor and clinician of national and international acclaim.
The group premiered a commissioned piece by Singh for this performance.
Also participating in the concert line-up was VSHS senior, soprano Alyssa Bunge who sang in the High School Mixed Honor Choir.
Davia Herger will be performing on stage this Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in the high school auditorium an original composition, “Little Red Dress.” She will also perform as a member of the VSMS Show Choir 2016 and the Eighth Grade Choir.
On February 15 at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School, twenty members of the middle school choirs participated in the EC ICDA (East Central Iowa Choral Directors Association) Honor Choir. They rehearsed and performed under the direction of Mr. Allen Chapman. This group will perform one of their songs on Thursday evening at the “In Living Color” concert.
Eight Shellsburg Elementary 5th grade students had the opportunity to be a part of the EC ICDA Youth Choir on January 29 at Coe College. They will perform with their classmates at the Shellsburg Fifth Grade Concert on April 25.
Director Lois Martin has been delighted with the hard work and dedication these students have shown working to audition, prepare and participate in these events. They have truly represented our communities and schools well.
Mrs. Martin is the East Central Representative for the Iowa Choral Directors Association and served as the Festival Coordinator for both of the area events this year.
