Starting on March 14, the Vinton-Shellsburg High School had the chance to participate in FFA Week. During the week there were dress up days, which everyone was allowed to participate in. The dress up days include: Movie Character Monday, Truck Tuesday, Animal Day Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, and FFA Friday.
Besides dress up days, the chapter also had other things occurring throughout the week. On Wednesday, the 16th, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter Officers went to the middle school for a recruitment session, in order for the 8th graders to get excited and learn more about FFA. Then, that Friday, students had the opportunity to drive their tractor to school, where members went out to eat for breakfast at the Vinton Family Restaurant as well as have a dessert after school at Tootsies. Also, during lunch the whole week, students were able to go and donate money to Operation BackPack while voting for a teacher to kiss a pig. The winner of Kiss The Pig is Mr. Chvala, who had to kiss a pig during the wrap up assembly on March 24th, 2016.
Besides doing Kiss The Pig during the assembly there were also a few activities where selected students had the chance to participate in. The participants had to do the cookie walk, were they had to move the cookie from their forehead to their mouth without using hands, the participants that did this include Alyssa Hendrix, Blake Bohnsack, Brittany Grendler, and Jordan Womochil, along with Mr. Islas. The chapter also called up eight people to do the pudding eating challenge, in which one person feeds another person pudding blindfolded. The participants include Mrs. Hansen, Mrs. Vaughan, Grant Noren, Clark Robertson, Scott Wirth, and Tyler Hekel.
It was quite the eventful week and assembly, and it turned out to be a really good time! The chapter was able to raise over $100 for Operation BackPack and had a great time doing so!
