When thinking of an island vacation, most folks think about sand in our toes, bright warm sun, and relaxing on the beach near a clear blue ocean.

Boy Scout Troop 55, based in Center Point, IA, entered a lottery selection pool in February 2016 and has been selected to participate in high adventures at Sea Base Florida in June 2017. The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base is a unique Scouting program, located in the Florida Keys, which offers aquatic programs found nowhere else.

Troop 55 has 21 Scouts and Scout parents who have started preparing for the Out Island Adventure which includes camping on a remote 100+ acre island, snorkeling on pristine coral reefs, trolling for sport-fish, kayaking through mangroves, and exploring the flora and fauna of Big Munson Island. Adventurers will wade ashore on Big Munson Island carrying all the food, water, and equipment they’ll need during the rugged camping adventure.

Troop 55 supports Scout families in the Center Point, Urbana, and Vinton areas. Troop 55 will be hosting a variety of fundraisers as they prepare for this High Adventure in Florida. Fundraising supports families who need financial aid and also assists with other troop expenses including summer camp, troop gear, and wilderness survival training scholarships for both Scouts and Scout Leaders.

Troop 55 will be participating in Center Point Lions Pork Days Celebration on June 2nd-4th, operating food stands and holding a silent auction to raise funds to continue to support High Adventure trips, camping gear, and outdoor activities for youth.

If you would like to support Troop 55 with silent auction items or with a donation toward this amazing trip to Sea Base, please contact Troop 55 Scoutmaster Beverly W. Bassett at (319)849-1072 or mail donations to 736 Adams Court, Center Point, IA 52213.
