On May 7th, 2016, the 2016-2017 Vinton-Shellsburg FFA officer team was installed. All of the offices are highly important to the chapter and it’s members and each officer is required to attend COLT, Chapter Officer Leadership Training, in order to be sure that they all know what is expected of them as an officer.
This year the training was held on June 8th at Hawkeye Community College. Out of the 37 chapters that are in the Northeast district 17 chapters attended the training. The day began by everyone breaking-up into their specific office to learn and get a better understanding of their duties. Afterward the entire group was split up into red or blue group depending on their nametag color, along with being numbered 1, 2, 3, or 4. Each group was then taken to their assigned breakout session.
The sessions included a fish bowl challenge to figure out what things might be taking over who you truly are, a time challenge to learn how to prioritize, a personality test, and a challenge to identify who the stakeholders for our chapter are. A stakeholder is a person with an interest and/or concern with our chapter. It allowed the officers an opportunity to make note of how they could get in contact with a stakeholder.
Overall, the day was a success and truly helped the officers come to know their responsibilities. It also gave the officers the opportunity get to know each other a little more therefor allowing a stronger bond and a better team.
