The Vinton Police Department is investigating a vehicle/pedestrian collision that injured a 6 year old child in the area of West 3rd St. and Hwy. 218. in Vinton at around 3:00 p.m. on Friday June 24, 2016.
The vehicle involved was reportedly a silver Chevrolet pickup with a dual real wheels that was pulling a white enclosed trailer southbound on Hwy 218. The child is believed to have made contact with the side of the pickup truck and/or trailer as it passed by.
The child was removed from the scene by family members and transported to an area hospital by private vehicle where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The pickup truck driver was flagged down initially by a witness but then reportedly left the scene travelling east bound on West 4th St. The driver was described as a white male, possibly in his 50's or 60's.
Vinton Police were not notified of the collision until 3:16 p.m. by a witness and all involved parties had left the scene by that time. This case is still under investigation and officers are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The Vinton Police Department is asking for assistance in identifying the silver Chevrolet pickup and its driver in addition to anyone who witnessed the collision,
