News : Vinton Police Department seeks ID of hit-and-run driver

The Vinton Police Department is investigating a vehicle/pedestrian collision that injured a 6 year old child in the area of West 3rd St. and Hwy. 218. in Vinton at around 3:00 p.m. on Friday June 24, 2016. The vehicle involved was reportedly a silver Chevrolet pickup with a dual real wheels that was pulling a white enclosed trailer southbound on Hwy 218. The child is believed to have made contact with the side of the pickup truck and/or trailer as it passed by. The child was removed from the scene by family members and transported to an area hospital by private vehicle where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The pickup truck driver was flagged down initially by a witness but then reportedly left the scene travelling east bound on West 4th St. The driver was described as a white male, possibly in his 50's or 60's. Vinton Police were not notified of the collision until 3:16 p.m. by a witness and all involved parties had left the scene by that time. This case is still under investigation and officers are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
