News : Crash in rural Vinton claims life of couple from Mt Auburn area

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a motor vehicle accident that happened approximately 10:15 am this morning ½ mile east of Vinton on 61st Street Lane.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a smaller SUV headed westbound on 61 street lane crossed over the center line on a curve and struck an oncoming pickup head on. The pickup had taken the shoulder to attempt to avoid the accident.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife died a short time later enroute to the hospital. The husband and wife were from the Mt. Auburn area located in the northern part of Benton County.

Assisting at the scene was the Vinton Police Department, Vinton Fire Department, North Benton Ambulance from Vinton, Lifeguard Helicopter from Cedar Rapids.

The victims are Terry and Evelyn Bradshaw, both 73, of Mount Auburn.

Investigation is continuing by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
