For the second consecutive Iowa Hawkeye football season, the Vinton-Shellsburg Post-Prom Committee has a unique opportunity to reach most of its fund-raising goal, and hopes area residents will help.
Working with Whelan Security, the group could raise up to $10,000 or more, if they can get 15 people to volunteer for each Hawkeye home game. The volunteers would serve as ushers, taking tickets, helping people find their seats, etc.
However, this year, the committee has another ushering fund-raising opportunity at Kinnick Stadium.
"We have an opportunity to join 'The Back Porch Revival' Concert at Kinnick Stadium on Aug. 27," says Post-Prom Committee Chairperson Mel Davis.
Davis describes the effort required:
"We would be putting in a long day (11 am to 11 pm) but we would make over $9/hour per person (16 and older) who would volunteer to help that day. Volunteering would involve taking tickets, ushering, and anything else they may need, nothing hard. They give breaks and you get to watch the Concert as an added bonus."
The Back Porch Revival concert features Blake Shelton and also includes Big and Rich, Thomas Rhett, Tucker Beathard (the brother of Hawkeye QB CJ Beathard), Morgan Frazier, David Ray and the Hunter Smith Band. The event is a fund-raiser for The Native Fund, an effort led by Dallas Clark and Ashton Kutcher to help Iowans recover from natural disasters.
Those interested in ushering should contact Davis right away.
Davis will have waivers to sign available at Ehlinger's Vinton Express. For more information, or to sign up, contact her at 319-560-9911 or by email MelissaAnneD@gmail.com.
