News : Lightning most likely started fire that destroyed house, says Chief

Jerry and Julia Meadows of Vinton were in Maryland following the funeral of Jerry's brother, when their home was mostly destroyed by a fire overnight on East 13th Street in Vinton. Fire Chief Gary McKenna said the cause is most likely lightning, although investigators will sort through the damaged home looking for more clues. McKenna said the house has heavy fire and water damage and is most likely a total loss, along with most of the contents. The fire department received the call at 2:20 a.m.
