News : Tilford students mark Fire Prevention Week with ride on fire truck

Scores of students enjoyed the October tradition of riding a fire truck Wednesday.

Waving flags and singing "Grand Old Flag" and other patriotic songs, the students of Tilford Elementary spent some time on top of Vinton or Garrison fire trucks Wednesday afternoon.

The traditional fire truck rides are part of the Fire Prevention Week collaboration between schools and the Vinton Fire Department. Other events include tours of the fire station. Many students received hats, glow-in-the-dark fire safety bracelets and reflective Halloween candy bags.
