By Brittany Hansen, V-S Co-Reporter On May 3, 2017 at the Benton County fairgrounds the annual 3rd grade ag day was held. Every year during the springtime, 3rd graders from the surrounding schools attend this event to learn about many different aspects of agriculture. It is very important for young children to know about different animals, farm equipment safety, and other areas of agriculture. This event allows younger children to learn about agriculture to help prevent any accidents while around animals or farm equipment and that agriculture is a vast subject with many different areas. FFA members from Benton Community, Belle Plaine, and Vinton-Shellsburg FFA helped this event run smoothly by teaching one of the sessions, being group leaders, and/or by setting up or cleaning up. The Vinton-Shellsburg chapter taught swine with the Benton County Pork Producers and worked with the Benton Community FFA to teach poultry and rabbits. We also had many be leaders for the groups and we helped set up and clean up afterwards. It was a very successful day for everyone!
