The Vinton-Shellsburg baseball team extended its winning streak to 5 with a sweep of Clear Creek - Amana on Monday followed by a win against Oelwein on Tuesday. The Vikings have had strong pitching over the last several games, giving up just one earned run in the past five wins.
Coach Jim Struve offered the following summaries:
The Vikings beat Oelwein 6-0. Blake Bohnsack pitched a complete game 4 hitter with 6 strikeouts. Bohnsack pitched really well by throwing early strikes and mixing in his off speed pitches. Conner Miracle completed a double play by making a great catch in center field and Will Edwards picked another guy off 2nd base from his catcher's position. Nathan Struve led the Viking offense with 2 hits, a double and 2 RBI's and David Bray also had 2 RBI's for the Vikes.

Game 1
Vikings win 13-1 in 6 innings over Clear Creek-Amana. Scottie Wirth pitched a fantastic game allowing 3 hits, striking out 4 and walking none on just 56 pitches. Viking bats really came alive as they pounded out 14 hits. Wirth and Jared Thompson had 3 hit a piece with Thompson adding a double and Homerun. Wes Edwards, David Bray, and Nathan Struve each had 2 hits with Struve and Thompson collecting 3 RBI's each.
Game 2
Vikings had a dramatic come from behind Victory winning 8-5 in Game 2. Trailing 2-5 entering the top of the 7th inning, the Vikes rallied to score 6 runs to secure the win. The Vikings showed a "No Quit Attitude" and really remained Team Oriented---which has been instrumental to their success. Tanner Davis, Nathan Struve, and Cole Overton each had 2 hits and Davis added 2 RBI's. Struve pitched 6 strong innings and Scott Betterton earned the Save pitching the 7th inning and striking out 2 of 3 batters he faced.
The Vikings are 14-2 on the season and will play Central DeWitt on Thursday at Viking Field for a conference double header.
